Carlisle is Cumbria’s only city and the county’s capital; Carlisle has much to offer the millions of visitors who travel here each year.

The impressive West Walls, together with the artefacts and wealth of information at Tullie House Museum a former Jacobean town house dating from the 17th century.

The wider area includes Hadrian’s Wall a legacy left by Romans and now a World Heritage site and the most important structure built by the Romans in Britain, stretching from Bowness on Solway to Wallsend in Tyneside the wall is lined with forts and mile castles built at strategic locations.

Talkin Tarn a country park contains a glacial tarn and once housed a wrestling ring and bathing house. Visitors will now find tearooms, gift shop and boat hire facilities.
